Wind Power

the energy solution or waste of time?

You are going to do some internet research to answer the following questions about wind power. For starters, try visiting the British Wind Energy Association at http://www.bwea.com/ref/faq.html and the governmental Department for Trade and Industry at http://www.dti.gov.uk/renewable/wind.html
Are wind turbines noisy?

How long does it take for a turbine to 'pay back' the energy used to manufacture it compared to coal and nuclear power?

Does wind power cost a lot?
How popular is wind energy?

How does wind farming affect tourism?

What happens when the wind stops blowing?

Does wind power cause air pollution?

Are wind turbines a threat to birds?

Now that you have gathered all this information, it’s time to write a persuasive letter to a newspaper about wind power for the UK. Describe some good and bad points about wind power, whether, all in all, you are for or against building wind farms and why. Write it in your book, or on a separate sheet of paper if you are going to send it to a newspaper of your choice.
